The Ultimate Working Man's Capsule Wardrobe

Every man should have at least one suit in his wardrobe for special occassions, job interviews and weddings. However if a man has to wear a suit everyday that one suit is not going to be enough. Below I intend to take you through the ideal capsule work waredrobe.

A capsule waredrobe covers the majority of eventualities while also ensuring you have plenty of options. Put simply it is

• 1 Charcoal grey/ Black Suit (Single breasted)

• 1 Navy Suit

• 3 White Shirts

• 2 Blue Shirts

• 3 Ties

• 1 Pair Smart Black Shoes

• 1 Pair Brown Brogue Shoes

Rule= Never mix black and navy blue fabric

The above items should allow a man to be able to look good each day without the need for large amounts of excess space in his wardrobes.

Two suits allow for a man to interchange between formal attire for work and both colours can be worn with pale blue and white shirts. If you wish to add a little more colour you could swap one of the shirts for a pale pink shirt. In previous studies a high percentage of women prefer their partner to wear a pink shirt. However it has been argued by some women that this will make them less attractive to other women!

3 white shirts can be used with either suit colour and with any choice of tie (Except never wear a black tie with a navy suit)

3 ties. These should be silk- not polyester. Choose ties that will go with grey and blue suits. I wouldn't recommend the purchase of a black tie as black tie and navy suit do not go together. Use your ties to show some personality and colour. No novelty ties!

Red Silk ties are very fashionable at present and really catch the eye.

Shoes. One pair of black shoes and one pair of brown. The brown brogues are best worn only with the navy suit.

The great thing about many of the above items is that they can be used with other outfits as well. Pale Blue and White shirts can be dressed down with a pair of jeans. And you can also use smart work shoes to dress up a pair of jeans for a night out.

A black suit can also be utlised if required as an economical option for black tie occasions when coupled with a dress shirt and bow tie.
