A walk in the Coniston Fells
The picturesque lake district village of Coniston is watched over by The Old Man of Coniston.
At 803 meters walking the Old Man of Coniston represents a challenge for many, however offers exceptional views out towards Coniston Water and towards Lake Windermere. As well as the imposing rock faces of Dow Crag and further afield towards the Scafell Massif which contains England's highest mountain.
Climbing the Old Man is not an exceptional challenge to a frequent walker. It has some steeper sections but on a good day is perfectly achieveable as a cheap family day out.

Walking route for the Old Man of Coniston and Dow Crag
This walk is a little more challenging than a simple ascent of the Old Man of Coniston. The route flows up the Coppermine Valley from Coniston Village before tracking round to the tranquil yet isolated Levers Water prior to an ascent up to Levers Hawse Mountain Pass. From Levers Hawse the route heads down to Goats Hawse for an optional ascent of Dow Crag. The climbing finishes atop the Consiton Old Man before descending through an old mine back to Coniston for a well earned drink
