Jeffisms. The world according to Jeff Murdoch from BBC's Coupling

For those of you out there not familiar with BBC's 'Coupling' Series

Coupling was a UK television programme that ran from 2000 to 2004 on the BBC in the United Kingdom. The sitcom (Situation Comedy) focused on the dating and sexual mishaps of seix friends in their early thirties.

Many billed the show as the UK answer to friends however while concentrating on the lives of a group of friends that spent alot of time together Coupling was much more on the adult side and therefore really the show should only be considered under the same 'group genre' that was popular at the time.

Writer Steven Moffat is acknowledged to have based the series on meeting his wife Sue Vertue and the issues that arise in new relationships. He even named the main characters Steve and Susan.

Jeff (Played by Richard Coyle) is Steve's (Played by Jack Davenport) best friend in the series and also works in the same company as Susan where he works as an accountant.

Jeff has extreme difficulty talking to women and his constant sexual frustration and fantasies make up a large part of the comedy within Coupling which adds a huge amount of of twisted humour to what at times could be seen as very serious relationship issues.

Jeff’s inability to talk confidently with women causes him to often lie (unintentionally) and stumble in an attempt to save face and not make himself appear to be simple. This however in many cases has the complete opposite effect.Many of the funniest and best remembered parts of the show Coupling were Jeff’s stumbles and unintentional lies which have become known as “Jeffisms”.
