Essential Reading List for Sports Science and Nutrition Students
66Essential Books for Sports Science Students and Slackers
Maybe people that become involved in sports science and become sports science students are very hands- on and practical people. However the subject itself is very complex and covers more than just simple anatomy and physiology.
Below I have compiled an essential reading list for sports science students to increase knowledge during studies or simply for athletes and coaches who wish to read more about the subject.
I will also provide a number of examples for the 'slackers' out there that simply want to understand the basics during a late night essay writing session for the next day.
1. Anatomy and Physiology Reading
I personally recommend the Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology by Frederic H. Martini which is currently in it's seventh edition and going extremely strongly which is a testament to the quality and depth of the subject.
While not targeted specifically at sports science this book concentrates simply on anatomy and physiology to provide an essential reference resource for students to add to their reading list for sports science.
For the slackers and non students that wish to gain a simple grasp of the subject the options to the left are a good addition to your reading list for sports science study.
For highly visual learners the Coloring Book series is a fantastic practical learning aid.
Exercise Physiology Reading for Sports Science
Exercise Physiology is what many students primarily associate with Sports Science. It covers how the body works during sports and it is therefore vital for a Sports Science student to have relevant reading material.
An Exercise Physiology textbook like those featured to the right are essential Sports Science reading books.
Sadly for the slackers out there there is no easy way round learning about Sport and Exercise Physiology.
Periodization of Training and Devising Training Programs
As a sports science student you will be required to devise and implement training programs which address Periodization of training and Sports Training Principles. Frank Dick is now head of the World Anti Doping Authority (WADA) and is a former British Athletics Coach. His book- Sports Training Principles takes the student through Periodization of Training and Sports Training Techniques in a straightforward manner to aide the learner.
A book for the studious and slackers due to it's easy to follow and reference manner.
Sports Nutrition Reading List
Most sports training books can also be included and quoted from within a Sports Nutrition reading list however any of the below will give you a great reference for your studies.
